The name Sardinia has pre-Latin roots and was first recorded in a Phoenician inscription on the Nora Stone.

Sardinia has been inhabited by humans since the end of the Paleolithic era, around 20–10,000 years ago.

The Carta de Logu, a legal code from the Judicate of Arborea, established rights for women to refuse marriage and own property.

Sardinia is probably the only European country where feudalism was introduced during the transition from the Middle Ages to the early modern period.
