The early Norse settlers named the island Greenland to attract more settlers with its pleasant name.

The Thule culture, which migrated to Greenland around 1300 AD, introduced technological innovations such as dog sleds and toggling harpoons.

Greenland is the world's largest non-continental island and the largest constituent country by area.

The lowest temperature ever recorded in the Northern Hemisphere was near the top of the Greenland ice sheet at −69.6 °C (−93.3 °F).

In 2007, a new island named Uunartoq Qeqertaq ('warming island') was announced after a glacier covering it melted away.
