Santo Domingo, formerly known as Santo Domingo de Guzmán, is the capital and largest city of the Dominican Republic and the largest metropolitan area in the Caribbean by population. As of 2022, the city center had a population of 1,029,110 while its metropolitan area, Greater Santo Domingo, had a population of 4,274,651.
Santiago de los Caballeros, often shortened to Santiago, is the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic and the fourth-largest city in the Caribbean by population. It is the capital of Santiago Province and the largest major metropolis in the Cibao region of the country.
Los Alcarrizos is a municipality (municipio) of the Santo Domingo province in the Dominican Republic. Within the municipality there are the following municipal districts : Palmarejo-Villa Linda and Pantoja. The municipality of Los Alcarrizos is home to 336,307 inhabitants (2022), making it one of the most populous municipalities in the country.
Santo Domingo Este is a municipality and the provincial capital of the Santo Domingo province in the Dominican Republic. It has one municipal district, San Luis.
San Pedro de Macorís is a city and municipality (municipio) in the Dominican Republic. The capital of its eponymous province in the east region of the country, it is among the ten largest cities of the Dominican Republic. The city has approximately 217,000 inhabitants when including the whole municipality. As a provincial capital, it houses the Universidad Central del Este.
La Romana is a municipality and capital of the southeastern La Romana Province, opposite Catalina Island. It is one of the 10 largest cities in the Dominican Republic with a population estimated in 2022 at 153,241 within the city limits, of whom 149,840 are urban and 3,401 are rural. The name Romana comes from the word "Bomana", a name given by Indians to what is known today as Romana River.
San Francisco de Macorís is a city in the Dominican Republic located in the northeast portion of the country, in the Cibao region. It is the capital of the Duarte Province and the sixth most populated city in the country since 2010.
Bavaro is an area of Punta Cana, located in La Altagracia province, the easternmost province of the Dominican Republic. Bávaro Beach is located on the east coast of the Dominican Republic. Along with Punta Cana and other nearby beaches, Bávaro Beach forms part of the well-known Coconut Coast, a 60-km stretch of coastline lined with coconut palms and warm waters.
Puerto Plata, officially known as San Felipe de Puerto Plata; is a major coastal city in the Dominican Republic, and capital of the Puerto Plata Province. The city is a major trading port as well as a tourism hub; Puerto Plata has resorts such as Playa Dorada and Costa Dorada, which are located east of the city proper. There are 100,000 hotel beds in the city.
Higüey, or in full Salvaleón de Higüey, is the capital city of the eastern La Altagracia Province, in the Dominican Republic, and has 415,084 inhabitants, according to the 2022 census. The Yuma River flows through the urban areas of Higüey.
