Los Alcarrizos

Los Alcarrizos was the scene of protests against the Haitian occupation in 1824, known as the Revolution of Los Alcarrizos.

The largest population growth in Los Alcarrizos occurred in 1979 due to the construction of Los Barrancones for those left homeless by Hurricane David.

As of the 2022 census, Los Alcarrizos had 336,307 inhabitants, with a slight majority being women.

The Los Alcarrizos cable car, known as Line 2 of the Teleférico de Santo Domingo, opened in May 2023 and covers 4.2 kilometers.

Every Good Friday, a Stations of the Cross procession in Los Alcarrizos draws thousands of Catholics, making it one of the largest Christian events in the municipality.
