Vietnam, officially the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (SRV), is a country at the eastern edge of Mainland Southeast Asia. With an area of about 331,000 square kilometres and a population of over 102 million, it is the world's 16th-most populous country.

Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon, is the most populous city and municipality of Vietnam, with a population of more than 14 million in 2025. Its geography is defined by rivers and canals, of which the largest is Saigon River.
Hanoi is the capital and second-most populous municipality of Vietnam. It encompasses an area of 3,358.6 km2 (1,296.8 mi2), and as of 2025 has a population of 8,807,523. Hanoi had the second-highest gross regional domestic product of all Vietnamese provinces and municipalities at US$48 billion in 2023, behind Ho Chi Minh City.
Haiphong or Hai Phong is the third-largest city in Vietnam, with an area of 3,194.72 km2 (1,233.49 mi2). It includes Bạch Long Vĩ and Cát Hải islands in the Gulf of Tonkin. Haiphong has a population of 4,664,124 in 2025. Haiphong holds the historical distinction of being the first city in both Vietnam and Mainland Southeast Asia to be electrified.
Da Nang, also spelt Danang, is the fourth largest municipality in Vietnam by population and the largest by geographical area. As one of the country's seven direct-controlled municipalities, it falls under the administration of the central government. Da Nang's port and its location on National Route 1 and the North–South Railway makes it a transport hub. APEC 2017 was hosted in Da Nang.
Cần Thơ is the third largest municipality in Vietnam and is in the Mekong Delta region. It is noted for its floating markets, Bánh tráng-making village, and rural canals. Cần Thơ has a population of around 4,199,824 as of 2024.
Biên Hòa is a former city in Vietnam and was the capital city of Đồng Nai Province. Situated northeast of Ho Chi Minh City, Biên Hòa is connected to it via Hanoi Highway. As a class-1 provincial city, it is the sixth largest city in Vietnam by population.
Nha Trang is a coastal city and the former capital of Khánh Hòa Province, on the South Central Coast of Vietnam. It was bounded on the north by the Ninh Hoà town, on the south by Cam Ranh city and on the west by Diên Khánh District. The city had a population of about 535,000 people in 2023.
Huế, formerly Thừa Thiên Huế province, is a municipality in central Vietnam, located approximately at the center of the country, and an educational, medical, and cultural hub. It borders Quảng Trị to the north, Đà Nẵng to the south, Salavan and Sekong of Laos to the west and the South China Sea to the east.
Vũng Tàu is a former coastal city in southeast Vietnam. The city covered 141.1 km2 (54.5 sq mi) of area and consisted of 16 urban wards on Vũng Tàu island with an islandic commune of Long Sơn, including the same name island and Gò Găng Island. The city is known as a major crude oil extraction center of Vietnam.
Quy Nhon was a former coastal city in Bình Định province in central Vietnam. It was composed of 16 wards and five communes with a total of 286 km2 (110 sq mi). Quy Nhon was the capital of the former Bình Định province. As of 2022, its population was 481,110. Historically, the commercial activities of the city focused on agriculture and fishing.
