Vung Tau

Vũng Tàu was originally referred to as Tam Thắng, meaning 'Three Boats', in memory of the first three villages in the area.

The Christ of Vũng Tàu is among the tallest statues of Christ in Asia, completed in 1974 and standing 32 metres tall.

Vũng Tàu has four extensive beaches, including Back Beach, Front Beach, Strawberry Beach, and Pineapple Beach.

A notable event during the Vietnam War was the attack by Viet Minh fighters on a French military R&R center in Vũng Tàu, resulting in numerous casualties.

Vũng Tàu is twinned with Baku, commemorating the cooperation in petroleum extraction between Soviet Azerbaijani and Vietnamese specialists in the 1980s.
