Burundi, officially the Republic of Burundi, is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is located in the Great Rift Valley at the junction between the African Great Lakes region and Southeast Africa, with a population of over 14 million people.

Bujumbura, formerly Usumbura, is the economic capital, former political capital, largest city and main port of Burundi. It ships most of the country's chief export, coffee, as well as cotton and tin ore. Bujumbura was formerly the country's political capital.
Gitega, formerly Kitega, is the political capital of Burundi. Located in the centre of the country, in the Burundian central plateau roughly 62 kilometres (39 mi) east of Bujumbura, the largest city and former political capital, Gitega is the country's fourth largest city and former royal capital of the Kingdom of Burundi until its abolition in 1966.
Muyinga is a city located in northern Burundi. It was the capital city of the former Muyinga Province. It lies at an altitude of 1,731 m and has a population of 100,715.
Ruyigi is a city located in eastern Burundi. It is the capital city of Ruyigi Province.
Kayanza is a city located in northern Burundi, known for its tea and coffee production. It is the capital city of Kayanza Province, subdivided into nine communes from which one is called Kayanza. It is one of the areas with higher population density.
Ngozi is a popular feminine name of Igbo origin that means "blessing". While the name is normally standalone, it can be short for Ngozichukwu. It also lends itself to place names in Africa, independent of the Igbo meaning.

Bururi is a city located in southern Burundi. It is the capital city of Bururi Province and has around 20,000 inhabitants in 2007.
Rutana is a town in southern Burundi. It lies west of Mount Kikizi, one of the highest mountains in the nation. The Kagera Falls lie near the town. It is the capital of Rutana Province, one of the 18 provinces of Burundi.
