Yamoussoukro

Yamoussoukro is the site of the largest Christian church in the world: The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace.

The village of N'Gokro was renamed Yamoussoukro, with 'Kro' meaning town in Baoule.

In March 1983, President Houphouët-Boigny made Yamoussoukro the political and administrative capital of Ivory Coast.

Yamoussoukro is governed as part of the Yamoussoukro Department and was made an autonomous district in 2011.

The city features a lengthy wet season from March through October and a shorter dry season for the remaining four months.
