Salalah was the traditional capital of Dhofar, which peaked in prosperity in the 13th century due to the incense trade.

The majority of the Omani population in Salalah (98.9%) is Muslim, primarily following the Sunni sect.

The Port of Salalah is one of the largest ports on the Arabian Peninsula and is an important transshipment hub.

Salalah experiences a transformation from a brown landscape to lush green scenes during the Khareef season.

Dhofar F.C. is nicknamed 'Al-Zaeem', meaning 'The Leader(s)', due to their success in Omani football.
