The first ascent of Lhotse Middle was made on 23 May 2001.

Lhotse Middle remained the highest unclimbed named point on Earth for a long time.

Soňa Vomáčková became the first woman to reach the main summit of Lhotse without supplemental oxygen on 12 May 1999.

The Lhotse standard climbing route follows the same path as Everest's South Col route up to the Yellow Band.

In certain mountaineering circles, climbing to the summit of Lhotse and then to Everest in less than 24 hours is known as the 'Double Crown'.
