Gobi

The Gobi Desert is approximately 1,295,000 square kilometres (500,000 sq mi) in area.

The Gobi is classified as a cold desert, with temperatures ranging from −40 °C (−40 °F) in winter to 45 °C (113 °F) in summer.

The Gobi Desert is the source of many important fossil finds, including the first dinosaur eggs discovered in 1923.

The Gobi Desert is expanding due to desertification, particularly on its southern edge into China, where 3,600 km² of grassland is overtaken every year.

The Gobi can be divided into five distinct dry ecoregions based on variations in climate and topography.
