Paraguay, officially the Republic of Paraguay, is a landlocked country located in the central region of South America. It borders Bolivia to the northwest and north, Brazil to the northeast and east, and Argentina to the southeast, south, and west.

Asunción is the capital and the largest city of Paraguay. The city lies on the eastern bank of the Paraguay River, immediately north northeast of the confluence where it is joined by the Pilcomayo River. The Paraguay River separates Asunción from the Occidental Region of Paraguay to the northwest, and from Argentina to the southwest.
Ciudad del Este is the second-largest city in Paraguay and capital of the Alto Paraná Department, situated on the Paraná River. It is located 327 km (203 mi) east of Asunción, the capital, and is adjacent to the border with Brazil, to which it is connected by the Friendship Bridge on the Paraná River.
San Lorenzo is a city in the Central Department in Paraguay. It is a suburb of Asunción, and the third most populous city in Paraguay, with a population of 252,561. The National University of Asunción campus is located in San Lorenzo, that's why it is sometimes known as "Ciudad Universitaria". The city is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Lorenzo.
Luque is a city in Central Department of Paraguay, part of the Gran Asunción metropolitan area. Both 1635 and 1750 have been recorded as dates of its founding. It was temporarily the capital of Paraguay in 1868 during the Paraguayan War before relocation to San Estanislao.
Capiatá is a city and a district in Central Department, Paraguay. It had a population of 236,999 inhabitants according to the 2022 national census, making it the fourth-most populous city in the country.
Lambaré is a city in Central Department, Paraguay, forming part of the Greater Asuncion metropolitan area. It covers an area of 27 km2 (10 sq mi) and had a population of 127,150 inhabitants according to the 2022 national census, making it the eighth-most populous city in the country.
Encarnación is a district and the capital city of Itapúa Department in Paraguay, located at the south-east of the department, on the right-hand (western) shore of the Paraná River, opposite Posadas, Argentina. The city has an area of 274 km2 and a population of 106,842, and the Greater Encarnacion area has a population of around 200,000. Encarnación is the third-largest city of Paraguay.
Pedro Juan Caballero de Añazco y García de Otazú was a leading figure of Paraguayan independence. He was born in Tobatí, a town located Cordillera Department of Paraguay which was then part of the Spanish Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata.
