Wrocław

The earliest recorded mentions of Wrocław's name date back to around the year 1000.

Wrocław was founded around 940 at the intersection of two trade routes, the Via Regia and the Amber Road.

During the first Mongol invasion of Poland in April 1241, Wrocław was abandoned and burned down for strategic reasons.

The city was declared a closed city in 1963 due to a smallpox epidemic.

Wrocław has a historical botanical garden founded in 1811, which includes an Alpine garden.
