Wewak

Wewak was the site of the largest Japanese airbase in mainland New Guinea during World War II.

Wewak International Airport was formerly a Japanese airfield and is still in use today.

The old center of Wewak is situated on a small peninsula between the ocean and a coastal range of mountains.
