Valparaiso

Valparaíso was named after a village in Cuenca Province, Spain, by Juan de Saavedra in 1536.

Valparaíso was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003 for its unique urban form and historical significance.

As of the 2024 census, 99.4% of Valparaíso's population is urban.

The Valparaíso trolleybus system has been in operation since 1952 and included some of the oldest trolleybuses in regular service until 2023.

Valparaíso's first dock was built in 1810, marking the beginning of its significance as a port.
