Ust-Kamenogorsk

The city has two official names: Oskemen in Kazakh and Ust-Kamenogorsk in Russian.

Ust-Kamenogorsk was founded in 1720 as a fort and trading post named Ust-Kamennaya.

The Ulba Metallurgical Plant was inaugurated as the home of the Low Enriched Uranium bank in 2017.

Oskemen is often recognized as one of the most polluted cities in Kazakhstan.

The city is home to the Zhambyl regional drama theater, featuring both Russian and Kazakh troupes.
