Taiz

Taiz first became an urbanized area during the days of the Sulayhid dynasty.

Ibn Battutah described Taiz in 1332 as one of the largest and most beautiful cities of Yemen.

Taiz is home to one of the best-known mountains in Yemen, Jabal Saber, which is almost 3,000 metres above sea level.

The Mocha coffee produced in Taiz was considered some of the finest in the region in the early 20th century.

Due to the civil war, many of the animals at the zoo have become sick or died due to lack of food.
