Szeged

Szeged is often called the City of Sunshine due to its high hours of sunlight reported annually.

The name Szeged may have originated from an old Hungarian word for 'corner' (szeg), referring to the turn of the river Tisza.

Szeged was first mentioned in 1183 in a document of King Béla III.

The first printing press in Szeged was established in 1801.

Szeged is known as the home of paprika, which arrived in Hungary in the second half of the 16th century.
