Maribor

The Slovene name Maribor was coined by Stanko Vraz in 1836 as an artificial Slovenized creation.

Maribor was first mentioned as a market near a castle in 1204.

Maribor's Jewish ghetto, which peaked around 1410, included a synagogue and a Talmud school.

The house of the oldest grapevine in the world, over 400 years old, is located in Maribor.

Maribor hosted the women's slalom and giant slalom races for the Alpine Skiing World Cup until 2019.
