Ponce

Ponce is named after Juan Ponce de León y Loayza, the great-grandson of Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León.

Ponce is bordered by the municipalities of Adjuntas, Utuado, Jayuya, Peñuelas, and Juana Díaz.

Ponce has the largest number of barrios of any municipality in Puerto Rico, with 31 barrios.

In 2007, over 6,000 tourists visited Ponce via cruise ships.

Ponce's historic downtown area has been recognized as one of the 60 of the World's Great Places by the nonprofit Project for Public Places.
