Pavlodar

Pavlodar was founded in the 9th century as the settlements of Khakan-Kimak and Imakia.

The name Pavlodar means The Gift of Paul, commemorating the birth of Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich of Russia.

Pavlodar has a warm-summer humid continental climate with long, cold winters and hot summers.

Pavlodar River Port JSC is one of the active ports on the Irtysh River and was the largest transshipment hub by the mid-1980s.

Several FIDE masters and grandmasters regularly participate in chess competitions organized by the Chess Federation of Pavlodar.
