Cahul

The modern name Cahul was given to the settlement after the Battle of Kagul, which was fought nearby.

Cahul has been a part of various countries, including the Principality of Moldavia, Russian Empire, Ottoman Empire, and the Soviet Union.

Cahul has a humid continental-type climate with four distinct seasons.

Every two years, Cahul hosts an important folk music festival called 'Nufărul Alb' ('White waterlilies').

Cahul is home to the State University of Cahul, which was opened in 1999 and has around 2,150 students.
