Casablanca

Before the 15th century, Casablanca was known as Anfa, a name that appeared in various European sources.

The Portuguese name for Casablanca, Casa Branca, means 'white house' and was a calque of the Arabic name ad-Dār al-Bayḍāʾ.

During the French protectorate, Europeans made up almost half the population of Casablanca.

Casablanca hosted the Anfa Conference in January 1943, where Allied leaders discussed the war.

The Jewish cemetery of Casablanca is one of the major cemeteries in the city, reflecting its historical Jewish community.
