Mohale's Hoek

Mohale's Hoek was first inhabited by the San, who were found there by the Baphuthi around 1795.

The area was later called Maphutseng, meaning the plural of a certain variety of pumpkin.

Mohale established a substantial village at Old Hoek, which was destroyed in 1867 during the Seqiti War.

Mohale's Hoek became the second oldest of all the district headquarters towns in Lesotho.

The town moved from Old Hoek to its present location due to a businessman of English descent named PB Jandrell.
