Tripoli

Tripoli was founded by combining colonies from three different Phoenician cities, leading to its name 'Triple City' or Trípolis in Greek.

The city was once known as al-Fayḥāʾ, derived from the Arabic verb fāḥa, indicating the diffusion of a scent, particularly from its vast orange orchards.

Tripoli was conquered by an Arab Muslim army in 635 and later became a commercial and shipbuilding center under Umayyad rule.

The Palm Islands Nature Reserve, the largest of Tripoli's offshore islands, is a protected area for green turtles, rare birds, and rabbits.

The International Fair of Tripoli site, designed by Oscar Niemeyer, was left incomplete due to the Lebanese civil war, resulting in a metaphor for the city's decay.
