Namp'o

Nampo was originally a small fishing village that became a port for foreign trade in 1897.

The name of the city comes from the fishing village that was originally located in the Samhwa-hyon area.

In September 2020, a major uplifting of the city was completed, resulting in a seaside theme with buildings mainly remodelled in blue.

The West Sea Barrage of the port of Nampo has three lock chambers which allow the passage of ships up to 50,000 tons.

Parts of the World Cultural Heritage listed Koguryo tombs are located in Ryonggang County, dating to the 5th century.
