Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte

The village of Darugama, where Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is located, was a naturally secure place due to its confluence of two streams.

Kotte was given the epithet 'Sri Jayawardenepura' in 1391, meaning 'resplendent city of growing victory'.
