Klagenfurt

The name Klagenfurt literally translates as 'ford of lament' or 'ford of complaints'.

Legend has it that Klagenfurt was founded after brave men slew a winged 'lindwurm' that was preying on the duchy.

Klagenfurt is elevated 446 metres above sea level and covers an area of 120.03 square kilometres.

As of 2019, around 20% of Klagenfurt's population were immigrants, primarily from the Balkans and Germany.

Klagenfurt became the first city in Austria to adopt a pedestrian zone in 1961.
