Zarqa

Zarqa was established in 1902 by Chechen immigrants displaced by wars between the Ottoman and Russian Empires.

The oldest Palestinian refugee camp in Jordan, known as Zarqa Camp, was set up in 1949 after the Nakba.

Zarqa is located 15 miles northeast of Amman in the Zarqa River basin.

Zarqa is Jordan's industrial center, home to over 50% of Jordanian factories.

The city is home to Hashemite University, the largest of three universities in Zarqa.
