Harar

The etymology of the name 'Harar' may be derived from Harla, an ancient group that existed prior to the arrival of the Oromo people.

Harar was founded by saint Abadir Umar ar-Rida, who is said to have arrived with 405 other saints from the Arabian Peninsula.

According to Sir Richard Burton, Harar is the birthplace of the khat plant.
