Rustavi

Rustavi is one of Georgia's older towns with a history that dates back to ancient times.

The 11th-century chronicler Leonti Mroveli connects Rustavi's foundation to Kartlos, the eponymous ancestor of Georgians.

Rustavi was rebuilt as a major industrial center during the Soviet era, part of Joseph Stalin's accelerated industrialization process.

At the beginning of 2021, Rustavi had more than 130,072 inhabitants, making it the fourth most populous city in Georgia.

Rustavi is divided into 10 territorial bodies, including districts named after historical figures and events.
