Curitiba officially became a town in 1812, spelling its name Curityba.

Curitiba has a long history of being intentional about city planning, with early leaders establishing building regulations.

Curitiba features a temperate oceanic climate, with nighttime temperatures in winter sometimes dropping below 0 °C (32 °F).

Curitiba is home to the largest restaurant in the Americas, Restaurante Madalosso, which can feed more than 4,600 diners at a time.

Curitiba became Brazil's first city to receive the prize 'Pole of Information Technology' in July 2001.
