Cúcuta

The name of Cúcuta means 'House of the Goblin' in the native language of the Motilon-Bari indigenous people.

Cúcuta was the site of the Congress of 1821, where the Constitution of Cúcuta was written and approved, creating Greater Colombia.

Cúcuta has a tropical savanna climate, bordering on a hot semi-arid climate, with a mean temperature of 27.6 °C.

The coat of arms of Cúcuta was adopted on February 3, 1958, and features the title conferred on the city by Royal Decree of the Emperor Carlos IV.

Cúcuta's Free Zone is the most active in Colombia and one of the most active in Latin America, largely due to its trade with Venezuela.
