Brasov

The name Brașov is derived from the local river named Bârsa, which was transformed by Slavs into Barsov and later Brasov.

Brașov was renamed Orașul Stalin (Stalin City) in 1950 in honor of Joseph Stalin, but reverted to its original name in 1960.

The oldest traces of human activity in Brașov date back to the Neolithic age, around 9500 BCE.

Brașov is home to the Black Church, which is claimed to be the largest Gothic style church in Southeastern Europe.

Brașov is the second most visited city in Romania for tourism, after the capital Bucharest.
