Annaba

Annaba was formerly known as Bône and Bona, names derived from 'Ubbo', a local form of the name Hippo.

The city of Hippo Regius first entered historical records at the end of the 3rd century BC.

Annaba has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate with long, hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.

As of 2004, the University of Annaba had over 40,000 students enrolled.

Annaba is known for its verdant Main Street, also called the Concours de la Revolution, which is famous for its nightlife.
