Hong Kong International Airport

Hong Kong International Airport was built on a large artificial island formed by flattening and levelling the former Chek Lap Kok and Lam Chau islands.

The airport's construction holds the record for the most expensive airport project ever, according to Guinness World Records.

Terminal 1 of HKIA is one of the largest passenger airport terminal buildings in the world, measuring 570,000 square metres.

The third runway, also known as the North Runway, opened in July 2022 and is roughly the size of Gibraltar.

HKIA has been the world's busiest airport for cargo traffic since 2021.
